Our spiritual destruction is ultimately caused when we forget God because that is when evil has lurked in our mind. The reason for this is because it is either they or our soul that will govern this body, each and every second there is a constant battle with them through the mind. Many Sikhs cannot keep a steady path to God since the five evils (lust, anger, greed, worldly attachment and ego) and maya are always plotting ways to cause a downfall in to the sikh on their journey to God. Therefore, the main purpose of why Sukhmani sahib was composed by Guru Arjan Dev Ji was to bring fearless ness to his Sikhs and to free them away from spiritual destruction. At their request, one morning, Guru ji wrote Sukhmani sahib near the Sarowar Ramsar. The sangat requested Guru Arjan Dev Ji for a way to escape the fearful effect of Kalyug on humanity.
He was reflecting on the spiritual destruction caused by Kalyug on the people in this world. It has been said that Guru Arjan Dev ji was sitting near Ramsar Sarowar at an isolated place and peaceful place at Amritsar. Sukhmani sahib was given to us by Guru Arjan Dev Ji.
